Five years ago, during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, a remarkable initiative emerged: the “Sun Never Sets in Rotary” (SNSR). This initiative began as a response to Rotary's need for innovative ways to Connect, Inspire, and Serve. Our global community found itself at a transformative juncture, reinforcing our bonds through fun, friendship, and service.

At the forefront of this initiative was PRIVP Celia Giay. She created process plans that supported the Rotary International president in realizing their vision each year. Under her leadership, Rotary began to link the many threads of our global community. With the meticulous coordination of Pat Vythialingam, the foundation for SNSR was laid across over 540 districts and countries, ushering in powerful connections.
As the initiative flourished, young Rotractor Sasi from RC Ambattur took the reins as the Tech Lead. This bold decision reflected our vision for SNSR—a platform that embraced technology and collaboration. Rotary District 3230, now known as District 3234, provided essential support, including Virtual ID assistance for nearly seven months. This backing allowed us to build a solid digital infrastructure.
Technical collaboration blossomed, with key Rotary figures such as Murat facilitating the successful launch of the 2023-24 chapter's website. Influential leaders, including PDG Canan, DGN Grace Van Zyle, PDG Jim Onions, and Rtn. Gunes, united efforts to ensure smooth operations. Their teamwork and sense of ownership formed the backbone of SNSR's annual success.
Mark your calendars! Each year, the marathon of celebrations kicks off from February 23 at 2 PM GMT until February 24 at 2 PM GMT. This electrifying event draws participation from countless countries. For instance, SNSR21 attracted representatives from 50 countries, while SNSR25 grew to 58+ participating nations. Each gathering enables us to refine our processes, making each iteration better than the last.

In a spirit of creativity, Celia Giay also composed a song that resonated within the Rotary community. Titled "We are Rotary, We are One," this official SNSR anthem became a cherished symbol of unity. Countries embraced the music, translating the lyrics into their languages and using it to promote engagement. In fact, social media analytics showed a 40% increase in local Rotarian engagement during promotional campaigns featuring the song. This melodious connection has played a significant role in deepening relationships among Rotarians worldwide.
Focusing on SNSR25, this year featured an impressive lineup with Rotary International President Stephanie Ulrich adding her unique flair to each session. Timeliness was crucial, with all sessions commencing and concluding as scheduled. An ambitious goal of attracting 1,000 attendees for every slot marked this year's event as truly thrilling.
Successful events call for seamless coordination. Each slot enlisted two program coordinators, a tech coordinator, and a Public Image representative to introduce social media dimensions effectively. Our Core group members guided participants through eight comprehensive sessions, each refreshing and inspiring. Celia Giay’s slots ran exceptionally well, leaving a tangible sense of inspiration that empowered participants to make a real impact in their communities.
SNSR has evolved into more than just an initiative; it has become a strong brand within Rotary—an emblem of our unity. Looking ahead, we are excited to integrate efforts for SNSR26, focusing on the theme “Unite for Good.” The first gathering to lay out foundational plans is set for October 25.
"We are one, we are Rotary" perfectly encapsulates the essence of SNSR. This initiative signifies much more than a virtual meetup; it represents our dedication to building genuine relationships and amplifying our collective efforts to serve others.
The phrase "The sun never sets on Rotary" signifies the global reach and impact of Rotary International. In this context, Rotary District 3410, which includes Indonesia, exemplifies this commitment through their dedicated efforts. They focus on delivering sustainable change across communities by addressing seven key areas of focus:
Promoting Peace: Initiatives aimed at fostering peace and conflict resolution.
Fighting Disease: Efforts to combat diseases and improve health care access.
Providing Clean Water: Projects that ensure access to safe and clean drinking water.
Supporting Education: Programs that enhance educational opportunities and literacy.
Growing Local Economies: Initiatives that stimulate economic development and entrepreneurship.
Saving Mothers and Children: Health programs focused on maternal and child health.
Protecting the Environment: Projects aimed at environmental sustainability and conservation.
Through these areas of focus, Rotary District 3410 showcases its tireless work and commitment to creating lasting, positive changes in the communities it serves.
The legacy of SNSR exemplifies Rotary's innovative spirit as we navigate a constantly changing world. What began as a response to a global crisis has turned into a thriving community of Rotarians from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared cause. As we look to the future, let's carry forward the torch of inclusivity, collaboration, and service, ensuring that when we say, "the sun never sets in Rotary," we truly mean it.
We eagerly anticipate the upcoming chapters of SNSR, where together, we can craft unforgettable experiences that resonate within our hearts and communities. Let’s keep our momentum alive and continue to inspire one another!
