The documentary film "Rotary is Everywhere" showcases the powerful impact of seven innovative humanitarian projects by Rotary Clubs in District 3410. These initiatives not only highlight Rotary's core values but also show how service can transform lives.

The film offers a glimpse into various projects undertaken by Rotary Clubs in District 3410. Each initiative addresses specific community needs, ultimately improving lives and promoting sustainability:

PEACEBUILDING AND CONFLICT PREVENTION | ENVIRONMENT

Welcome to Indonesia, we represent Rotary International District 3410 in introducing The Three-in-One for Sustainable Impact initiative implemented by DG Daniel This program integrates three key focus areas—

Zero Waste education, Positive Peace, and Stunting Prevention—ensuringlong-term, meaningful change in communities across the district.

The first component, Zero Waste education, emphasizes practical and sustainable waste management through Eco Enzyme and Takakura composting methods.

The second pillar, Positive Peace, aligns with Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick’s recognition of the importance of peacebuilding, three Rotarians from District 3410 participated in a three-day training hosted by the Rotary Institute for Economics & Peace Partnership on May 17, 2024, in Yogyakarta, along with over 50 delegates from Oceania.

The third focus is Stunting Prevention, addressing Indonesia’s ongoing challenge of a stunting rate above 20%. Through the “Let’s Prevent Stunting” campaign, Rotary is delivering comprehensive education on balanced nutrition and proper dietary practices during the first 1,000 days of life.

DISEASE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Prevalence of blindness in West Java province according to RAAB survey is 2.8% with confidence interval 2.0-3.5%, and cataract is the main cause with the proportion of 77.1%. It means there are 257,600 blind people of 50 and above, 198,609 of them have cataract blindness. In the termof cataract problems, West Java government has been implementing the prevention of blindness and low vision program since 2005, but backlog of cataract is still high. Lots of barriers on cataract surgical services program come from provider and population. Five main kind of barriers come from population are costs, distance, social and culture, community awareness, and trust to provider.

Rotary Club of Bandung since 2018 has initiated free cataract examination and surgery for people in need in west java area especially Bandung, titled Gift of Sight Indonesia. to address the challange described above.

WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE

Flash floods that occurred in May 2024 in the Ogan Komering Ulu district, South Sumatra paralyzed three villages in the Ulu Ogan sub-district. the worst impact was the clean water shortages due to flash floods affected around 2000 people from 500 households.

Rotary Club of Palembang Have done the community Assessment during their survey to the impacted area, they have found that the most important thing after the village is no longer in isolation because of the flood disaster material. the firtst thing they need is Food. medication and clean water. They come on the first trip with Food Supplies to help the community kitchen. and we found out that the other most needed is clean water due to the pipes that broken during the flash flood. Rotary Club of Palembang have done the checklist what is needed which is pipelines rebuilt for clean water supplies.

This Project will impact to almost 2.000 people in the 3 (three villages) they will have clean water supplies with the pipe installations and water filltration. and they will have healthy life . besides that it will enhance the people of the village to become more productive.

On September 4 2024, the Rotary Club of Purwokerto implemented a Community Service Project by providing clean water assistance to residents of Menganti Village, Rawalo District, Banyumas. The village has experienced severe drought for the past three years, with wells reaching 8-13 meters deep but no longer producing water. This condition makes access to clean water very limited for local residents. To help overcome this problem, the Rotary Club of Purwokerto sent a tank of clean water to two different points in the village, which is set to serve two RTs.

This clean water is stored in simple reservoirs made using tarpaulin, which allows residents to take water whenever they need it. Usually, the water provided runs out within two days, showing how important this assistance is for the daily lives of the residents of Menganti Village.

MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

Stunting is a condition characterized by a child's lack of height when compared to children his age. Simply put, stunting is a term for growth disorders in children. The main cause of stunting is malnutrition in pregnant women and lack of nutritional intake during the child's growth period. Many people don't realize that a child's short height can be a sign of chronic nutritional problems. Stunting is a health problem that has existed for a long time. This condition is caused by poor nutrition, repeated infections, premature birth, and low birth weight. However, the most common cause of stunting is malnutrition.

Based on the Ministry of Health's Basic Health Research in 2019, 6.3 million toddlers out of a population of 23 million or 27.7 percent of toddlers in Indonesia experienced malnutrition and malnutrition to the point where stunting was indicated. This condition can be caused by lack of access to nutritious food, ignorance about nutrition, and lack of access to clean water, sanitation and clean, healthy living behavior.

The Let's Prevent Stunting movement implements bottom-up education, starting from the family, which is a basic stage that can support family efforts in ensuring children receive balanced nutrition. Balanced nutritional interventions are very important during the first 1000 days of life, starting when the mother is pregnant until the child is 2 years old.

The Let's Prevent Stunting movement is not a short-term activity, but an activity that must always be ongoing and sustainable. For this reason, Rotary District 3410 collaborates with various parties from government agencies, posyandu, the community and the private sector. One of them is PT. Sasa Inti is committed to implementing collaboration to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia through the Let's Prevent Stunting movement with Rotary District 3410.
