The Challenge
The need to salvage their water logged rice fields was made known to some Rotarians when visiting the area of Tanjung Bintang, Lampung Indonesia.
and the locals saw how villagers down river had solved their problem with canals, culverts and water gates and asked the help of Rotary Club of Lampung Raden Intan for funding.
The Action
Our project team surveyed the location which requires irrigation for continual crops productions. We plan to irrigate about 200,000 m2 of unproductive land. Members of the benefiting community are farmers who requires irrigation for their crops hence sourced for nearest water source that can be used for long term irrigation. They seek our assistance for this project. The local community help us to find the proper land to be irrigated by the system we planned.
We plan to build canals from the river flow to the unproductive land near the river flow, so the unproductive land can be paddy field. Our objectives are to make the unproductive land becomes productive and improve the financial of the villagers around the land.
Building the capacity of local leaders, organizations, and networks to support economic development in poor communities; Developing opportunities for productive work and improving access to sustainable livelihoods; Empowering marginalized communities by providing access to economic opportunities and services; Funding graduate scholarships for career-minded professionals related to community economic development.

The technology to support irrigation is new in Bandar Lampung hence trainings are required for the coordinator ( village head ) to use the technology. The sales of the crops are entirely for the beneficiaries.
The project committee will make a team to provide an operations and maintenance plan for the equipment / materials. We will choose the professionals and people with integrity to do this duty. The community members will maintain the equipment and we will control them regularly. Yes, the replacement parts are available. We choose the equipment that can be culturally appropriate and conform to the community's technology standards.
